Be* here now
Posted by: Nik in Weblog, tags: Be Unlimited, broadband, connection, internet, Lost, modem, network, routerMy internet connection was switched today. Switched to Be Unlimited as they have fast internet, unlimited downloading and a good price. Initial speed seems to be about 10mbps, much better than what it was, at 2mbps.
My ‘Be box’ modem/router arrived yesterday so that was already plugged in so was just a nice hassle free switch.
Quick tweak to the network settings, job done. I like it when things go well. Just need to get the Macbook sorted out, later. Too busy catching up on the Lost finale.

I dream about such speeds, I’m on a satellite connection in Thailand and on a good day will get 130kbps, usually its more like 50kbps, so at 10mbps you’re some 200 times faster! Downloads are frequently around 2 KB/sec, never more than 20 KB/sec.
Is internet technology advancing over there? Britain was at 56kbps dial-up for ages then they brought out 512kpbs broadband just a few years ago, now it’s rocketed up to 1, 2, 8 even 24mbps in some places.
Be patient I’m sure it’ll get better!
Its technology Thai style, which means whoever runs the business promises one thing and delivers another, while they trouser as much cash as they can before anyone realises
You can get ADSL here, supposedly 2mbps, but I can’t get phone line here without spending a fortune, hence satellite. Phoned the ISP to complain yet again and was told the service was slow because ‘too many people use’ … as in we’ve sold the service to more people than our bandwidth can cope with … the suggestion was to use the service in the middle of the night when it was quieter!
Thai aren’t very good at complaining, they just accept whatever is thrown at them and say ‘mai pen rai’ (never mind) … does my head in sometimes, but the weather’s nice
Once the companies realise there’s big business involved things should get better! Especially if any competitors start up.
Doesn’t the government control these things? If there are supplier problems over here, government agencies get on the case and sort it out.
As you say, the weather’s nice, it must be amazing just to forget about trivial problems and go sit out in scorchio sunshine, Thailand looks beautiful in pictures!
