Has blogging died? The future…
Posted by: Nik in Site News, Weblog, tags: Bebo, blog, community, Facebook, Flickr, Myspace, social networking, Wordpress, YouTubeYou may notice I rarely post on here anymore. I’m not the only one, probably 90% of all other blogs I’ve read in the past are no longer active (lying idle or totally erased). So I’m not sure whether I should change the direction of this personal website (twistedkites.co.uk).
It seems that everything is covered by the various social networking sites. Bebo and MySpace include blogs. Flickr is great for photos. YouTube covers the videos. Facebook covers everything (that’s where I’m most active these days). Not only that but various fan sites include profiles and other community features.
Should I concentrate on the social networking side instead? Maybe I could turn this site around to group together my presence from all other sites that I am active on, and maybe just add my own various pieces on here as and when needed.
As much as I’ve enjoyed using Wordpress for running my website, I could possibly switch to something simpler. Maybe open up parts of the website for friends and family to use too?
Lots to ponder.

You’ve touched on a question that’s on my mind as well.
I tend not to blog much lately. I don’t really have much to write that’s worth writing a new post about. I’ve just started using Twitter and update that, as well as facebook and youtube now and again, I don’t have much to put on a blog and neither do a lot of people by the looks of it which is a pity cus reading a good blog post is actually more interesting than reading people’s facebook updates even tho it’s not as good for just keep in touch on a daily basis.
Mine is still updated now and again so if anyone reads it I’ll be very happy.
I suppose many bloggers are starting to feel the same. I’ve started to use twitter a bit more now myself, and facebook is good for keeping in touch in all sorts of ways. I still read lots of blogs, I have RSS feeds for all those I read which is an easy way to see which are not being updated, Shame I don’t get much opportunity to comment these days, I think I’m out of the rhythm.
I might just switch to a wordpress.com blog again for now see what happens. Then I can simplify this website, add feeds to it from blog, my twitter etc..
To me blogging has never been the same since the old 20six community disbanded! After that everyone spread out, switched blogs willy-nilly, got lost and gave up. Cocomment is a good idea to bring them together a bit but not as good as one big integrated community.
