A nice new installation of Wordpress, using fantastico this time so should be easier to update it. Plus a lot more behind the scenes stuff, plenty still to do. Stay tuned isnit.

You may notice I rarely post on here anymore. I’m not the only one, probably 90% of all other blogs I’ve read in the past are no longer active (lying idle or totally erased). So I’m not sure whether I should change the direction of this personal website (twistedkites.co.uk).

It seems that everything is covered by the various social networking sites. Bebo and MySpace include blogs. Flickr is great for photos. YouTube covers the videos. Facebook covers everything (that’s where I’m most active these days). Not only that but various fan sites include profiles and other community features.

Should I concentrate on the social networking side instead? Maybe I could turn this site around to group together my presence from all other sites that I am active on, and maybe just add my own various pieces on here as and when needed.

As much as I’ve enjoyed using Wordpress for running my website, I could possibly switch to something simpler. Maybe open up parts of the website for friends and family to use too?

Lots to ponder.

Migrated the domain to a new host today, also copied the Wordpress installation and my database files over and it seems to be running well with minimum of fuss!

I was using 1&1 but the were slow so I’ve moved over to tsohost to see if it’s any better. There seems to be more features and allowances for less than half the price 1&1 were charging, plus plenty of good reviews.

Here’s hoping I’ve made the right choice.

Well I finally got round to installing Wordpress version 2.5. Pretty flawless installation, just needed to disable a couple of widgets which aren’t totally compatible yet. Admin area is much nicer, front-end is very similar to how it was, need to tweak the theme to show the sidebar all the time, sometime I’ll be able to find time to find a proper theme.

Got the new R.E.M. album, Accelerate, yesterday. Quite short but catchy, well paced and makes you feel good. Go buy it! You know you want to. Sounds a bit like Document, New Adventure’s in Hi-Fi with a twist of the others added in and still sounds classic yet still modern.

Busy at work, got early shifts this week. And just found out I’m very likely to have the very same shifts next week, surrounded by different shifts. I even have a day off in that lot somewhere. Well half a day really as it’s a 1am start again next morning. Not too chuffed about that but it has to be done. I hope I get a long weekend soon. Otherwise I’ll be dangerously exhausted I think. EU driving regulations are meant to stop drivers feeling tired but they actually encourage it, silly Belgians.

So as long as I survive these long hours, Wordpress stays stable and I don’t get struck by a strange comet, see you all soon.

I’m not sure, but there may be some changes around here sometime soon. Wordpress.org have released the next version of the blogging software, Wordpress 2.5, so I’ll update it when I get time. Hopefully everything will work (as it’s a major release, more than an update), no idea whether there’ll be much different on your side of things but it seems there are big changes behind the scenes.

I know I’ve not been posting much lately. (But then again not many do, my RSS feed blog updates hardly differ these days!)

I’ll try to try harder. Maybe if I can find a Mac OS widget or something for Wordpress it might help.

I’m sitting at Preston depot (got 4 hours here in the middle of the night), plugged the Macbook into the WWW with my 3 dongle, sorting my blog, listening to the iPod. I’ll have to use these lulls to blog more often if I’m struggling.

Anyway work has been busier than usual, my relationship is going beautifully (we’re both going to Ireland for a 5-night break next week, can’t wait), car is running well.

Also recovering from a cold, quite annoying but not tragic.

Regular readers (if there are any left that haven’t disappeared into the void themselves), keep on at me to keep updating. How is everyone doing?
